Modern cosmology, our understanding of the universe, is a scientific success. But what a strange universe it is, dominated by the dark-side, the matter and energy that shape the cosmos. In this talk, I’ll review our understanding of the universe, from cosmic birth to eternal future, as well as exploring just what we mean when we say that our universe is expanding.
Short history: BSc from the University of London, PhD from Cambridge, then research in the USA and Canada before coming to Sydney in 2000 to take a position with the Anglo-Australian Observatory. Moved to the University of Sydney in 2002 where I am now a Professor of Astrophysics, with research focusing upon dark matter and dark energy.
