Challenge and interesting results from a new daytime astronomical observing campaign

At Macquarie Observatory on the Wallumattagal Campus in Macquarie Park, we have been conducting observations during the daytime at visible wavelengths of light. I will share details of our stellar observation campaign and highlight an unexpected result related to satellites in low earth orbit.

Associate Professor Lee Spitler is a researcher at Macquarie University, based within an applied research department named Australian Astronomical Optics. Spitler's research focuses on developing new instrumentation and observing techniques to advance understanding in a broad range of astronomical fields. A theme in his research is exploiting consumer technologies like Canon lenses. He is currently leading several space-bound payload projects that support non-astronomy applications, such as safely landing on the surface of the moon.
